British Columbia promotes an inclusive education system in which
students with special needs are fully participating members of a community of
learners. Inclusion describes the principle that all students are entitled to
equitable access to learning,achievement and the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of
their educational programs. The practice of inclusion is not necessarily
synonymous with full integration in regular classrooms, and goes beyond placement to
include meaningful participation and the promotion of interaction with others.

Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.)
Key Individuals in Working with Special Needs Students:
Teachers - be involved in identifying areas of need for their students, working closly with developing an individual education plan, helping create alternative or modified lessons or tactics within the class.
SEA’s - collecting data from observations, provide teachers with support and resources to help keep students involved and integrated, also provide one on one instruction during pull out sessions when needed.
Parents - work in partnership with teachers sharing any information that will be benefical in the education of their child, support the education of their child.
Therapy Specialists - if additional support is given out of the school they can help contribute information that can help the teacher and SEA build effective strategies and plans to help the student.
Councillors - when needed can help provide support for all students as well as resources for students.
Students (Peers) - with education and support from teacher can help establish an open and excepting environment for learning, peers can help support other students in their learning.
